It has very good frost tolerance, similar to bacon and will grow in moderately frosty areas such as the Riverland and Adelaide Hills.
It is a nice fruit, better than Bacon, but not as good as Hass or Reed. The fruit ripens in winter from June to September which is the opposite season to the spring/summer varieties Hass and Reed. If planted with Hass or Reed, Zutano can contribute to year-round fruit production. It is self-pollinating but makes a good pollinator for Hass which sometimes needs the assistance of outside pollen to set a good crop. Zutano can be pollinated by Hass.
